A CONTAINER terminal on the River Tees has been shortlisted for awards recognising the best in design and construction skills.

PD Ports expansion to its facilities at Teesport is shortlisted in The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East Robert Stephenson Awards.

They are recognition of work carried out by civil engineers either within the region, or by companies or organisations based in the North East.

WSP Group plc, Royal Haskoning and Hall Construction Services Ltd are amongst 17 shortlisted entries for the TCT2 new container terminal facility, constructed on behalf of PD Ports and opened in the autumn.

Other shortlisted entries include the Durham Graham Sports Centre at Durham University and the Tees International Whitewater Course at the Tees Barrage in Stockton.

The winners will be announced at the ICE North East Annual Dinner in Newcastle on April 26.

Derek Smith, ICE North East's Robert Stephenson Awards secretary said: "These Awards are an annual celebration of our industry which, despite the economic climate, has continued to deliver excellent projects across the region in recent years, demonstrating the exceptional array of talent we have."
