Man faces court over death of baby son
8:00am Saturday 28th January 2012
A MAN will appear in court this morning accused of killing his five-month-old son.
Lee Clark, 27, will appear before magistrates in Peterlee, charged with the manslaughter of his son in Gainford, County Durham, last year.
Charlee Clark was admitted to Darlington Memorial Hospital with head injuries on Friday, February 25.
When his condition worsened, he was transferred to a specialist unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, but died on Tuesday, March 1.
Charlee had lived with his parents in Neville Close, Gainford, between Darlington and Barnard Castle.
A post-mortem examination was carried out by a pathologist to determine a cause of death for Charlee, who was born in September 2010. At the time, villagers expressed shock and sadness at the events.
Police arrested Mr Clark on suspicion of murder and bailed him pending inquiries.
Yesterday morning, Mr Clark answered bail at Durham city police station, and was charged with manslaughter.
He was remanded into custody.
